The workplace of today is almost unrecognisable from the offices of the past. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Big, open-plan spaces that sparked distraction have been replaced with smaller, dedicated workstations, home offices, and even coworking spaces and coffee shops; places where employees are able to concentrate more easily, and focus on the task or project at hand.
But there’s just one problem: when we’re not physically together, isn’t it harder to work together?
Fortunately, Google is solving that problem head-on.
All productivity apps are available in the cloud at any time, from any connected location. Data, files, documents, and even people all become just as accessible in the virtual space as they are in the physical world.
When we use technologies that aren’t tied to a single location or device, we’re able to see changes as they’re being made, right in front of us, even if the person making those changes is on the other side of the world. We can work together on the same document, at the same time, from different places.
And with video conferencing and instant messaging tools, we can chat whenever we want. We can brainstorm. We can bounce ideas off each other. Or even check in socially to ensure we’re all looking out for each other. The right tech mimics real-life workplaces, even if we can’t always get to them.
